Journée à Melbourne / Day at Melbourne

Score final : 36-20!  Go Reds Go!!

A great day in Melbourne today. We started with a quick breakfast at Starbucks, and then walked over to the Melbourne Museum. The permanent exibits at the museum are split into three sections, one about a human history of the area, a forest, and a natural history/science area.
We started out in the human history (I know there is a specific term for that, but I can’t remember it at the moment), which covers the aboriginal tribes of the area, and then moves on to the European history of the area. It was all quite well laid out and presented, and moved you through the various eras of development up until the present time.
We skipped the forest area, due to the fact that it was cold (it was partially outside) and the fact that we had just hiked through a forest….
The natural history/science area had an in-depth look into the human brain, both from a history of our knowledge of the brain as well as currently knowledge in general. It included some hands-on brain tests and things of that sort, as well as much discussion about brian disorders and how views towards them have change significantly over that few hundred years. We skipped quickly over the rest of the museum as we had dinner reservation for before the rugby game.
Dinner was at Mrs. Parma’s, a restaurant/bar that was recommended to us by one of Kate’s roomates, and he did not lead us astray. Dinner was delicious, and accompanied by a great selection of beer. I think Chantal was happy to get a good, hoppy, IPA.
The day finished with the rugby match which is the whole reason we have been driving down to Melbourne. The Reds won 36-20 against the Rebels in a very windy match. There was at least once case of a kicker getting a foul because he wasn’t able to kick the ball at least 10 meters. The ball did go ahead more than 10 meters, but it just came right back to him afterwards! The game wasn’t particularly well attended, but I guess I can’t blame the locals when their team is second last and it’s really cold outside!
That’s all for today. Tomorrow we start our journey back up to Brisbane, and hopefully warmer weather!

-John
