Hervey Bay à Brisbane / Hervey Bay to Brisbane

Hi all, we are finally back in Brisbane after our journey! Yesterday we relaxed again in Hervey Bay, starting out with a one hour kayak rental to explore the bay a little bit. We found out today that in the summer whales often come out and bump the kayakers, but being winter we didn’t see any wildlife. The afternoon was spent doing laundry and generally relaxing around the hotel.

This morning we woke up early(ish) and drove down to the Cooloola Recreational Area, part of Great Sandy National Park. We didn’t have a whole lot of time, so we did a 4km (return) hike to Poona lake, with a few extra kilometers past the lake added on for good measure. It was a very different lanscape from what we have seen. The area is a rainforest with a sandy base. There were a lot of birds around (the forest was a bit noisy actually), but we could only spot small slimpses of them. On our way out we did see a frog (or toad, not sure which) that appeared to be injured. He was having some difficulty hopping around, and appeared to have some blood on one side. I’m not really sure what happened there. All in all it was a nice hike, and I enjoyed the change of scenery.

For the afternoon we drove back to Brisbane. After some showers we picked up pizza stuff and made a few pizzas for Paul, Claire, and ourselves. We still need to figure out what we are doing for our last few days, besides celebrate Paul’s birthday, which is tomorrow.
