Genoa

We stayed in the centre of Genoa today, getting everywhere on foot. The morning started with Chantal and I going out to get some focaccia for everyone for breakfast. After breakfast we walked down Via Garibaldi looking at what used to be palaces. Most of them now are things like banks or shops, but in all cases the exteriors and…

Cinque Terre

As I mentioned yesterday, Genoa is pretty quiet on Sundays, so we took the train down to Monterosso al Mare. Cinque Terre (the five lands) consists of Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore, the last being the only one we didn’t visit today. For those who have seen the Disney film Luca, the scenery would be very familiar…

Florence, day 2

A more wandering day today, but still saw lots. After breakfast we walked to the interactive Leonardo da Vinci museum (as opposed to the other Leonardo da Vinci museum a few doors down and presumably non-interactive) where they have built a lot of his inventions. Like the name implies, you can play with them and see how they move, although…

Florence, day 1

Long day today, walking a total of around 15 km around Florence, but we saw a lot. We started with a late wake-up after a good night’s sleep to catch up on the sleep we didn’t get on the flight over. After a light breakfast, we walked to Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore, also known as the Duomo. Apparently…

Made it to Florence

We landed in Rome this morning around 0930 local time after an uncomfortable but otherwise uneventful flight. After grabbing something quick to eat at the main train station, we killed the couple of hours we had before our train to Florence left by walking around the Museo Nazionale Romano which is right next to the station. This included a view…

On our way…

Hi all, we’ve all got to the gate in Montreal for our flight to Rome, and from there we catch a train to Florence. Hopefully it is all uneventful, but it will be a long ~16 hours or so. We will start posting once we are there.

Day 5 in London

Not much to report today, we took it pretty relaxed. After waking up and showering we had a delicious brunch at Bill’s, then headed to the center of town. We were originally going to go to Churchill’s War Room, but didn’t realize you have to pay to get in (most museums are free in London), so decided against it. As…

Jour 4 – Londres
