We got up a bit earlier today to try to get a bit more in. We started with a quick (but surprisingly huge) breakfast near Boxhagener Platz, a trendy area in the neighborhood we are staying in. From there we walked down to the East Side Gallery, the longest stretch of still-standing wall in the city, and the location of…

Made it to Berlin
Chantal and I got into Berlin just before noon today (Sunday), and made our way to the main train station on the bus. We are staying at Airbnbs for this trip, and were told the room was ready early, so we’re able to drop off our things and get cleaned up. The hardest part was not laying down on the…

Chantal runs the BMO Okanagan Half-Marathon
Chantal ran in the half marathon at the BMO Okanagan Marathon in Kelowna. She finished with a final chip time of 1:55:00 and a smile on her face! Out of 168 in her category (female 40-49), she placed 33.
We are all very proud of her!

Back home from the Yukon
We forgot to do an update on Tuesday when we got back, but this means that we can add some photos! I came down with a cold, so we ended up going to see the McBride Museum of Yukon History (indoors!) instead of skiing. It’s a small museum, but has some interesting artifacts, and good stories of the area. The…
Blue skies
We had another day of skiing today. Slightly warmer, as in it was just above -30°C today. We took the bus there and back, which works very well and give almost door-to-door service for us. We didn’t try stopping at any huts in the forest today, our rule of thumb is that if there isn’t any smoke coming from the…
Crisp cold and skiing
Today we did a “leisurely” wakeup, and eventually took a taxi up to the Canada Games Centre around 1030. At -30°C, it’s easy to wax, although the skis were not particularly fast today. Once we were going, though, the skies were clear, and everything was nice and calm around us. Because of the temperature, we had the place almost to…
Landed in Whitehorse
We landed last night to -31°C temperatures, which was a bit of a shock, and it hasn’t gone much above that yet. So far the Yukon is great, though. Our cab driver mentioned that today is the start of the Yukon Quest, a 1000 mile sled dog race from Whitehorse to Fairbanks, Alaska. It was exciting to watch them start…
